How to make: Curry, Japanese style! This dish is a warm, filling meal that is often eaten with rice. It is usually packed with vegetables and you can pick from a huge number of toppings!
Try topping it with Tonkatsu for a hearty meal!
What you need:
- 1/2 box (115g) block of your choice of curry.
- Beef (cubed) … 250g
- 2 medium onions (400g)
- Potatoes (medium) … 1 1/2 (230g)
- 1/2 medium carrot (100g)
- 1 tablespoon salad oil
- 850ml water
- 750ml if you cover the pot with a lid
Steps
- Cut the onion in half lengthwise, flat side down, remove the core, and cut into radial wedges.
- Cut the potatoes in half lengthwise, then cut each half into two halves. 1 potato should be cut into 6-8 pieces.
- Cut carrots in half lengthwise, flat side down, and cut into 3 cm pieces.
- Heat salad oil in a heavy pan, add beef, onions, potatoes, and carrots, and saute until the meat is browned and the onions are soft.
- Add water and bring to a boil, then remove the scum at the top.
- Simmer over low to medium heat until ingredients are tender, about 15 minutes.
- Once the heat has subsided, break in the roux and dissolve well.
- Simmer over low heat again, stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 10 minutes.
