How to make: Zosui 雑炊

How to make: Zosui, which is a rice gruel that is often eaten when you are feeling unwell. It is easy to make and good for you! Let’s try it out!

Ingredients (1 serving):

  • Rice (cooked) 120g
  • Egg 1
  • Water 300ml
  • (A) White dashi 1/2 tablespoon
  • (A) Usukuchi soy sauce 1 teaspoon
  • (A) Mirin 1 teaspoon Green onion (finely chopped) As needed

Steps

  1. Crack the egg into a bowl and beat it.
  2. In a pot, heat water and (A) over medium heat. Once it boils, add the rice and continue heating.
  3. When it boils, reduce the heat to low and cook for about 5 minutes until the rice softens. Then, return to medium heat and slowly pour in the beaten egg.
  4. Stir everything together over medium heat. Once the egg solidifies, turn off the heat.
  5. Serve in a dish, sprinkle with chopped green onions, and it’s ready to eat.
