How to make: Japanese Curry カレー

How to make: Curry, Japanese style! This dish is a warm, filling meal that is often eaten with rice. It is usually packed with vegetables and you can pick from a huge number of toppings!

Try topping it with Tonkatsu for a hearty meal!

What you need:

  • 1/2 box (115g) block of your choice of curry.
  • Beef (cubed) … 250g
  • 2 medium onions (400g)
  • Potatoes (medium) … 1 1/2 (230g)
  • 1/2 medium carrot (100g)
  • 1 tablespoon salad oil
  • 850ml water
    • 750ml if you cover the pot with a lid

Steps

  1. Cut the onion in half lengthwise, flat side down, remove the core, and cut into radial wedges.
  2. Cut the potatoes in half lengthwise, then cut each half into two halves. 1 potato should be cut into 6-8 pieces.
  3. Cut carrots in half lengthwise, flat side down, and cut into 3 cm pieces.
  4. Heat salad oil in a heavy pan, add beef, onions, potatoes, and carrots, and saute until the meat is browned and the onions are soft.
  5. Add water and bring to a boil, then remove the scum at the top.
  6. Simmer over low to medium heat until ingredients are tender, about 15 minutes.
  7. Once the heat has subsided, break in the roux and dissolve well.
  8. Simmer over low heat again, stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 10 minutes.
